While we emphasize teaching of lawyering skills and ethical behavior, do we neglect students' wellness and well-being?
This gathering will discuss preparing clinicians to deal with wellness issues in and out of class. It's the rare clinician who has not experienced the tragic suicide or near-suicide of a law student in response to the stress and demands of law school. Considering the perilous state of world affairs, it's more important than ever for clinicians to take a leadership role in addressing and promoting students' and lawyers' self-care.
With our high-risk profession having extreme rates of depression, suicide and addictive behavior, let's talk informally about preparing our student- lawyers to engage in healthy, self-care behavior when dealing with their stress, anxiety and self-doubt.
