Sessions Description

  • Prior to the rise of general incorporation statutes during the early 1800s, promoters had to seek bespoke charters from the government to use the corporate form. As a result, corporations often served the public good. General incorporation statutes created a schism between non-profit and for profit corporations that exists to this day. This panel seeks to explore the extent of that gap and how nonprofit and for profit corporate law interact and inform each other. This discussion is especially timely because of the rise of movements encouraging conscious capitalism and corporate social responsibility.
