Sessions Description

  • Despite animals being present in almost all facets of our lives, the law ignores them, mischaracterizes them, or fails to consider their relevance in legal decision-making. Legal analysis is impoverished as a result. This panel considers animals as seized property and as residents of ecosystems, and asks how true recognition might change legislative and judicial analysis. It will further address whether, when, and how consideration of animals might be brought into a particular legal framework through the work of the Uniform Commission on Law. These approaches can result in better legal outcomes for people, animals, and the world we inhabit.
