Sessions Description
-
This session, organized and sponsored by the Section on Law and Mental Disability, will address the state of mental health and wellness (or lack thereof) in law schools, today. Past years’ sessions evidenced interest in more opportunities to discuss how to enhance mental health in law schools, especially critical in these stressful times, with attacks on law, health, and higher education. The session will include representative voices from academic support, administration, disability, student life, and faculty who will share past and current approaches to address mental health concerns in law schools—not simply amongst law students, but also as experienced by faculty, staff, and administrators. Through facilitated, roundtable discussion, which actively invites audience participation, we hope to identify some best practices, tools, resources, and other elements that will support efforts to advance mental health and wellbeing in our law schools. The larger hope is that lessons learned can also “pay it forward”, i.e., will motivate creation of policies and practices that benefit the holistic practice of law post-law school.
