Lawyers and clinicians are trained in the art of debate, and we are all familiar with discussion. However, in today’s world, there is a critical need for a third, lesser-known option, dialogue. Intergroup dialogue is the missing link in fostering brave spaces where our students and faculty can learn, grow, and seek understanding from each other. A group of twelve faculty members from Detroit Mercy Law, seeing this need for dialogue, engaged in an inaugural intergroup dialogue training during the Summer of 2024. This lightening session is led by three of those faculty members, who are now Intergroup Dialogue Fellows. The presenters will illustrate, using a case study format of Detroit Mercy Law, the details about the origin, mechanics, outcomes, and purpose of intergroup dialogue training. Attendees will leave the session understanding the importance of intergroup dialogue training in both clinical and doctrinal context, as well as how they can incorporate this training in their own classes and replicate this model at their respective institutions.
