Celebrating and Reflecting on the Council on Legal Education for Professional Responsibility (CLEPR): What Have We Learned About Legal Education and Where Are We Headed?
(Program to be published in Clinical Law Review)
One or more presenters were selected from a call for papers.
This program has a dual purpose: (1) a commemoration of the establishment of the Council on Legal Education for Professional Responsbility (CLEPR) 40 years ago, (2) followed by a discussion of the state of the legal academy today, in light of recommendations contained in the Carnegie Report and Best Practices for Legal Education, as well as recent innovative curricular developments at various law schools areound the country and abroad. Two panel sessions will be held, which will look back on the history of the clinical legal education movement and on professional responsibility teaching, with particular emphasis on CLEPR. Panelists will explore the recommendations of Carnegie and Best Practices; discuss the challenges that law schools face in attempting to implement these recommendations; and propose provacative ideas for law school faculty members and deans to consider. The specific focus of both panels will be on assessment of ethical issues, professionalism, and lawyering. What should law faculty do to improve assessment? What should assessment methodology look like? How best can assessment be added to the curriculum?
