Reflecting the theme of this year's annual meeting, the Section invites AALS conference attendees to participate in an extended discussion focused on law as a transformative force in the lives of children. This program will address the effect on children of acute crises, such as Hurricane Katrina, and the underlying chronic challenges that such crises both reveal and exacerbate. Diverse panels of legal scholars, practitioners, and social scientists will focus on the needs of children in the domains of juvenile justice, education and health. In addition to the panel presentations, we invite AALS conference attendees to participate in a screening of the documentary film, Left Behind: The Story of the New Orleans Public Schools which will be shown immediately preceding the education panel.
