Sessions Description

  • Like all generations, Gen Z students are products of their societal and educational system experiences. Their early (and ongoing) access to smartphones, reliance on screens for reading, endless rounds of standardized testing, and more, have shaped who they are and how they learn. Their formative experiences collide with traditional legal education methodology in three impactful ways: 1) reading competency, 2) analytical ability, and 3) heightened anxiety. To properly educate our Gen Z students we must acknowledge their experiential differences and ask ourselves, “What are legal educators going to do about it?” In this session, we begin to answer this question by exploring practical teaching strategies educators can implement to better understand and reach their Gen Z students.
