Goal setting is a foundational part of the externship learning experience. This poster reports on a review of hundreds of student goals journals – both initial and semester-end – to understand what students’ goals are, whether students are meeting them during their externship semester, and if not, what can be done to better support future externs to achieve their goals. It concludes that we should better support remote and hybrid externships and those with less-than-optimal supervision, as well as allow more credit hours to be worked, in order to help students achieve their goals.
