Sessions Description

  • Universities have traditionally viewed the humanities as the area of study through which students encounter the world. Through the humanities, students learn about human life across cultures, geographies, and historical time. They learn how to read deeply, to think critically, and write convincingly. At their best, humanities force us to question matters as seemingly divergent as the use of technology or the application of the law. On Law, War, and the Humanities, panelists will explore what the humanities can teach us about war. As both domestic and international tensions continue to rise across nation-states, ideologies and identity groups, panelists will interrogate whether the study of the humanities have failed us. What changes, if any, must be made to encourage a return to the humanities? What does a reorientation toward the humanities offer? What might it leave behind? Panelists will address these and related questions on this timely topic.
