Sessions Description
-
East Asia is no stranger to challenges to freedom of expression. Whether it be experience with martial law in the past or repressive autocracies today, academic institutions have long navigated how to exist and even thrive despite daunting obstacles. Law schools have often been a focal point both for government restrictions and for resistance thereto. This panel will explore the landscape for freedom of expression across several East Asian jurisdictions with an emphasis on academia. Given concerns about freedom of expression within the United States, it will also address how experiences abroad resonate here.
