    Librarian as Scholar

The breadth of scholarship produced by law librarians is astonishing. This program will feature a fascinating look at the many dimensions of our professional research and writing. Explore the nexus of current multilateral treaty-making and the tensions between the developed and developing world as they relate to the protection of traditional cultural property (ancient songs, designs, and stories). Learn more about the benefactor of the University of Michigan Law Library, William W. Cook, and his tremendous influence on the development of corporate law. Examine how user interface design affects legal research through information foraging theory, with a focus on Westlaw and Lexis. Focus on the intertextuality of international and comparative law texts to see how historical marginal commentary is transformed with hypertext technology. Follow the no-citation and publication practices of England and the United States to learn of their divergent approaches.

    Business Meeting at Program Conclusion.
