This session will focus on the challenges and opportunities of moving to a tenure-track faculty position after years, or even decades, of teaching in law schools in other capacities. This program features faculty from law schools around the country who have focused on clinical teaching, legal writing, or administration who were presented with the opportunity to move to the tenure track mid-career. It will also include some faculty who actively sought tenure track positions after years in a different kind of academic position. Panelists will consider the factors that went into their decision-making process and will reflect on the experience. Participants will also consider more generally how best to promote the full integration of mid-career “non-podium” faculty into our institutions.
