Sessions Description

  • This panel examines the future of community development in light of the challenges the field faces. The U.S. needs significant infrastructure modernization in diverse sectors, and under-resourced communities need support for planning and development. But recent policy changes in this space have created an atmosphere of profound uncertainty. The Big Beautiful Bill, Executive Orders, DOGE, and Supreme Court jurisprudence have thrown federal support for locally driven infrastructure investments into chaos. Meanwhile, ideological debates over development abound, such as whether austerity or abundance is the way forward. The panel will examine the future of community development in this new era.
