Cooperative Efforts to Maximize Study Abroad Opportunities: Can U.S. Law Schools Work Together?
Despite the increasing number of international initiatives within American law schools, there have been few venues for law school professors and administrators to share ideas, and look jointly for creative ways of enhancing study abroad opportunities. In addition to the AALS annual meeting, there seems to be few other venues of communication and, ultimately, cooperation between different law schools with regards to study abroad and international programs. Cooperation may be viewed by some with caution due to the fact that each law school, reasonably, wants to obtain the maximum benefit from the program that it has organized, sometimes at an incredible cost to the school. There are (or should be), however, possibilities of cooperation where all participating institutions win. This panel will explore successful models already in place at different schools and will imagine other options that are not out there yet. From cooperation and association of study abroad administrators, to using the AALS International Legal Exchange Section as liaison and meeting place for schools and, perhaps, students.
