Cultural Property takes many forms. These include tangible artifacts, sacred sites, and performances, which are of central importance in the U.S., Canadian and other cultural property regimes, as well as human beings with specific skills, which is an aspect of Japanese Cultural Property. This panel will explore various forms of cultural property, legal treatment of cultural property in the U.S. and in other nations and under international regimes. The question remains whether extant legal regimes for regulating and dealing with cultural property are up to the task given the value such property has for given cultures and posterity.
