Sessions Description
-
This panel will focus on various areas of the law where emerging technologies are touted as solutions to a range of environmental and societal concerns, ranging from food security, AI and energy needs, a growing human population, climate change, and more. But could some of these proposed technologies cause more harm than good? What may account for the potential negative externalities resulting to particular population groups or resources? And who decides to what use these technologies are put? In some policy discussions, new technologies are being touted as a reason to currently maintain the status quo; in others, new technologies are being heralded as the only path to move forward, regardless of potential impacts or consequences. Each panelist will discuss current developments in the law and/or policy surrounding the evolving technology in a given area, including AI and Data Centers, Aquaculture, Critical Minerals and Seabed Mining, and Digital Twins and Just Transition.
