With the passage of ABA Standard 303(b), law schools are now required to provide “substantial opportunities” for the “development of professional identity.” This concurrent session will explore how clinicians can facilitate our students’ professional identity formation, with an intentional focus on intellectual humility. Using Wake Forest University School of Law’s unique and innovative partnership with the Program for Leadership and Character as an example, we will provide case studies from three clinics on how intellectual humility can facilitate professional identity formation that can be replicated in any clinic. After sharing examples and highlighting student learning outcomes, we will break out into small discussion groups to focus on topics of concern to attendees. Participants will have opportunities to discuss strategies that can be implemented at their home institutions.
