A number of studies have indicated that most law school faculties—like many other divisions of most American universities—do not reflect the ideological and political diversity of our nation. Rather, they are tilted heavily to the political left; conservatives are severely underrepresented. The purpose of this program will be to explore this phenomenon, including the following issues: First, how severe is the ideological tilt? Second, why has it occurred? Third, is it a problem? Fourth, if it is a problem, how it can be solved? Fifth, has the Association of American Law Schools played a role in either exacerbating or mitigating this ideological tilt?
