Climate change has generated substantial interest in energy-efficient building standards.  Local governments are adopting “green” building standards into their permitting processes and bestowing tax benefits on owners who develop or retrofit green buildings.  Likewise, climate change has renewed emphasis upon developing renewable energy sources (such as wind and solar), with governments again bestowing significant tax incentives for installation of renewable energy production equipment.  As more owners implement such technology, issues of land use control will assume increasing importance.

Panel 1 will address the “green building” movement and its implications both for the negotiation and documentation of real estate transactions and for the content and enforcement of land use regulations.

Panel 2 will address transactional and policy implications of the renewable energy movement.
