We’ve seen an alarming increase in legislative, executive, and judicial attacks on LGBTQ youth. From LGBTQ youth disparities in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems to “Don't Say Gay” laws, to the Texas Attorney General’s opinion restricting gender affirming care for trans youth, to bills banning trans girls from participating in sports, to courts upholding teachers’ rights to misgender trans students, all branches of government are harming LGBTQ youth. This panel will identify common threads that connect these attacks; frame developments within the larger context of state surveillance of and intervention in families; and consider paths for moving forward.
