The panel will examine the rise in domestic violent extremism in the U.S. while seeking to unpack the rhetoric to identify its origins and more precisely draw the contours of this threat to U.S. democracy and other governmental structures. It will consider how this threat is altering the national security landscape, blurring the line between domestic and foreign security efforts, and then propose changes to the legal frameworks that have traditionally governed national security and the institutional players usually charged with protecting the nation.
