This panel will focus on the use of current events both in the contracts course and in contracts scholarship. Many newsworthy events, such as recent advocacy for racial justice and force majeure clauses in the pandemic (among others), have prompted new lines of inquiry into established contract doctrines. Current events can help stimulate student engagement and also spark new ideas for research. This panel also evokes larger questions: How are current events shaping (or reshaping) the law of contracts? Which recent events will fade away, and which will have lasting impact on practice, doctrine, and the contracts course?
