In the clinic setting, students not only need to be able to receive constructive feedback, but they also are often called on to give peer feedback and assess their own work in ways that they have not previously been asked to do. This session provides a framework for teaching students to both give and receive feedback effectively. The framework emphasizes what it means to have a growth mindset and how it connects to giving and receiving feedback. It also provides students with a way to diagnose and prioritize what is most important in giving feedback, and thereby helps them develop their own critical eye to turn to their own work too. It also provides a way to convey feedback constructively, using growth language. All skills that will serve students well for their clinic work as well as their eventual practice beyond law school. In addition to reviewing this framework, this session will explore several ways for how teaching this framework can be incorporated and practiced as part of a clinical curriculum.
