A 2019 report by CLEA’s Committee on Faculty Equity and Inclusion revealed that law schools have made little progress in diversifying the ranks of clinical faculty members over the last 20 years. White faculty hold nearly 8 out of 10 clinical faculty positions, while Black and Latinx representation has peaked at 7 and 5 percent, respectively. The goals of the workshop are to provide insights with respect to the results and observations made by the Committee in investigating and writing the report, share information about best practices for fostering diversity in clinical hiring and to facilitate discussion about the unique obstacles to diversity and equity in this realm. Examples of obstacles clinicians have identified include the emergence of heightened credentials for new clinicians, e.g., the completion of clinical fellowships and a history of scholarship, the role of doctrinal faculty in hiring clinicians, and the challenge of attracting candidates of color to non-diverse areas. Panelists will solicit feedback from participants about the challenges they have faced—or successes they have enjoyed—at their institutions in attempting to ensure diversity in the clinical ranks
