The past year has seen a resurgence of anti-Zionist demonstrations on American campuses, including speech and conduct that is arguably antisemitic. Campus responses to these activities rely, explicitly or otherwise, on definitions of antisemitism that regulate speech and potentially implicate the First Amendment, academic freedom, and norms of civility on campus. Join us for a conversation about the legal dimensions of approaches taken by various academic institutions, and the uses and limits of leading definitions of antisemitism, including the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition, the Jerusalem Declaration on Antisemitism (JDA), and the Nexus definition.
