One of the greatest challenges
deans face is managing a multitude of issues across a wide range of
constituencies. It is often difficult to stay “on task” and keep one’s
focus on the big picture given the steady stream of issues that cross our
desks, and equally important, the tremendous need for us to manage and lead a
variety of people, including our direct reports, our faculty, and our
staff. Despite this, most deans have not received formal management
training. In this session, we will hear from an expert – Mark Horstman,
co-founder of “Manager Tools,” a company that specializes in providing tools
for improving management skills and institutional performance, including an enormously
popular (and free) management podcast. Mr. Horstman understands our
desire to do better or, as his company’s website says, “just … stop dreading
Monday morning”!
