This session takes our clinical community’s conversation about diversity in clinical teaching beyond recruitment to explore some of the challenges facing colleagues of color, particularly the aspects of working in the clinical teaching environment that are unwelcoming and unfair to clinicians of color that undermine our community’s efforts to both build pipelines and retain faculty of color. This session will address the issues that undermine a law school’s ability to retain diverse faculty. Our objectives are to (1) raise awareness of the need to take more meaningful steps to support faculty of color, (2) identify concrete examples of the most common challenges facing faculty of color, and (3) generate concrete actions white faculty can take to support colleagues of color, which we hope to incorporate into future programming and practical tools.
