The 2022 AALS Awards Ceremony recognizes excellence in legal education and will honor the winner of the AALS Triennial Award for Lifetime Service to Legal Education, Scholarly Papers Competition Winners, Section Award Winners, and Teachers of the Year.
In 2006, AALS established the AALS Award for Lifetime Service to Legal Education and the Law, an award presented every three years. The award is designed to formally recognize lifetime service to legal education by a faculty member or retired faculty member at an AALS member school and is selected by the AALS Executive Committee.
For 36 years, AALS has hosted the Scholarly Papers Competition for law school faculty members in the field for five years or fewer. In addition, several of the association’s 104 sections host awards honoring excellence within different academic disciplines and legal education areas of interest. The winner of these awards will be recognized during the ceremony. In a first for AALS, in 2021, four sections -- Leadership, Pro Bono & Service Opportunities, Professional Responsibility, and Women in Legal Education -- joined together to create the Deborah L. Rhode Award, which recognizes new trailblazers in legal education and the legal profession. The recipients of the inaugural Deborah L. Rhode award will be recognized.
The ceremony will also recognize faculty who have been honored by their schools as 2021 Teachers of the Year.
