Created by Professors Sarah Gerwig, Monica Roudil, and Meagan Hurley, this poster will share experiences in externship, direct services clinics, and experiential programs as they relate to the changing Bar exam. More and more states are adopting the NextGen Bar exam, with explicit assessment of practical lawyering skills including client counseling. This poster aims to prompt conversation around how externships and clinics could be a means of preparing students for the Bar. As the Academy faces major changes in our licensing exam, this could be clinicians’ time to shine. Still, there will likely be issues with funding, resources, and course prioritization. How do we rise to meet these challenges?
