This two-part in-depth workshop will provide an opportunity for program leaders understand the nuances of and explore opportunities to enrich our programs in light of four recent and dynamic ABA Standards.
Part I – Survey & Panel: The Promise and Strategies for New ABA Standards
Presenters will first provide a survey of four relevant new and evolving ABA Standards: Standard 303(b)(3) (development of a professional identity); Standard 303(c) (bias, cross-cultural competency, and racism); Standard 303(a)(3) (six-credit experiential learning requirement); and Standard 405(c) (faculty status).
The next segment will be a moderated discussion around each of these four ABA standards, focusing on organization and advocacy to advance clinical programs, courses, curricula, faculty, and staff under the standards. Panelists and participants will identify risks and challenges, but focus on opportunities, strategies, and tactics for using each standard and the requirements they impose to strengthen and centralize clinics and externships in the curriculum and student experience. Panelists will describe initiatives at their own schools, and this hour will include ample time for questions and ideas from the panel and participants.
