This panel will discuss early women in
legal education, especially women who served as deans. Two panelists have written
books about these early women. Pat Cain (Professor, Santa Clara Law) edited
Herma Hill Kay’s book, Paving the Way. Lisa Kloppenberg, Professor of Law and
Dean Emerita at Santa Clara Law, recently published with Oxford Press the story
of the life of Dorothy Nelson, The Best Beloved Thing is Justice: The Life of
Dorothy Wright Nelson. Camille de Jorna, Deputy for Legal and Global Higher
Education Law School Admission Council, who has written about deans of color
will also be a panelist. And Laura Padilla, Professor of Law, California
Western, who has written extensively about women law professors, will moderate.
