The COVID-19 pandemic has posed an unprecedented threat to American democracy. In 2020, the pandemic affected every aspect of the American electoral system—from the way candidates run campaigns, to the way states run elections, to the way citizens cast their ballots. This panel will discuss how our state and federal governments navigated the new rules of voting created by the COVID-19 pandemic to make sure that American citizens could vote. It will also survey the election-related litigation that ensued, and it will assess how the pandemic influenced the results of the presidential election in November.
