In a society and culture that has become increasingly hostile to trans and gender-expansive people, our teaching at the Center for Patient Partnerships’s Health Justice Clinic seeks to ground students in the personal experience of those attempting to receive gender-affirming care. From outright state bans, categorical exclusions from insurance plans, burdensome prior authorization processes, and lengthy insurance appeal timelines, our students advocate alongside patients facing systemic discrimination in constantly evolving political, legal, and insurance landscapes.
