Have you interacted with someone of a different race, gender, or other identity, and felt that you seemed to be talking past each other? Professor Robinson’s article, Perceptual Segregation, demonstrated that Whites and Blacks are predisposed to disagree about racial discrimination because they have different incentives and information about race and racism. Professor Emens has identified the divide between “inside” and “outside” perspectives on disability. Robinson and Emens have begun to think together about what they call “emotional segregation” as a barrier to equality. They will explore these ideas in conversation with Professors Gulika Reddy and Joshua Sealy-Harrington.
