In contrast to the progress we’ve made on human rights in the post-War era, our performance in the area of economic equity has been distressing. The rich are getting richer and controlling an increasing amount of the nation’s wealth. What are the consequences of this economic inequity for our democracy? At this critical time, we need to consider whether the theory of democracy demands a certain level of economic equity, or whether it relegates this matter to majority decision making. The speakers on this panel will explore this question and audience discussion will follow.
