In this interactive and interdisciplinary session, participants will learn about the Facilitated Attuned Interaction (FAN) model and learn how to apply it in supervision of student attorneys. Developed by Linda Gilkerson, Ph.D., of the Erikson Institute, the FAN model enhances client support and capacity building through attunement to client cues. Over the past four years, the presenters have adapted the FAN to the supervision of student attorneys, with the goal of supporting the growth, well-being, and success of student attorneys.
In the session, participants will learn about the stages of a successful Facilitated Attuned Interaction and practice reading cues for student engagement, empathic inquiry, collaborative exploration of problems and capacity building. Participants will also receive materials including a FAN model handout and a model supervision worksheet, which provides supervisor cues.
