The International Maritime Organization has promulgated regulations requiring all ships to record and reduce their carbon emissions. Those regulations will come into force on January 1, 2023, and they will produce some fundamental changes in the way that trading ships operate, including retrofitting of ships to use alternative fuels, changes in the structure of global ship finance, and many other operational modifications. Complying with the new decarbonization regulations is the hottest topic in the shipping industry at the moment.
