As Rhonda Magee (roughly) says, "Seeing self-care as a kind of personal justice...in that how we might commit to taking care of ourselves is a first approximation to what justice might look like in the world...In contrast to the churning mind of habits and to-do lists, mindfulness helps us focus on the current moment and release judgments or biases, a practice that often leads to greater empathy and resilience." But, self-care can be elusive. For many of us the boundaries between our work and our personal lives were blurred even before we began Zoom teaching from home. Self-care and mindfulness seem like luxuries we cannot afford. The truth, though, is that the cost of abandoning self-care is far higher. In this session, we will begin with awareness and sharing stories. Then we will help each other to build stronger foundations of wellness. Using the framework of mindfulness, wellness, and resilience, we will facilitate an interactive session where attendees will leave with a few more community connections along with some self-care tools, tips, exercises, and tricks to integrate into their personal and professional lives.
