In this panel, our presenters will discuss
a number of case studies in which Jewish communities have availed themselves of
the American legal system to achieve their own goals. Food labeling and
supervision, land use regulations, and the endorsement of one or another
religious group by the military all present situations in which secular
institutions implemented policies that have helped the Jewish community in
specific. In thinking about the effects of these policies, our presenters will
consider how these policies might violate the Establishment Clause and why
these policies might have been implemented despite this problem.
