In recent years, there have been several examples of managers, shareholders, stakeholders, and others taking unusual corporate action. Larry Fink's embrace of stakeholder theory, Elon Musk's decision to move Tesla to Texas, Engine No. 1's engagement with Exxon, Patagonia's decision to transfer its voting to stock to a non-profit are examples. In this panel, we explore the theme of "Courage in Action" in the many ways that scholars might define it. How do corporate actors engage in out-of-the-box ways? Should they do so? What are the consequences, and what should they be?
