    This roundtable discussion explores the challenges and opportunities of writing books, focusing on books geared to both general and scholarly audiences. General audience books can be challenging to write, may be difficult to get funded and published, and may not be worth the risk before tenure or other security of position. Academic presses and academic reviewers may be confused by the genre of nontraditional works and view their worth according to a scale designed for traditional scholarship. However, these books may be more widely read than more traditional academic books and have a broader impact on how people think
