This poster session will highlight the impact of broad public access to civil and criminal records, and the repackaging of those records into commercial background checks, on the lives of low-income and pro se litigants. The session will explore proposed and recently enacted legislation to expunge or seal these records, as well as implementation challenges and lessons learned. It will also address how law school clinics can engage with this work, and the transferrable litigation skills that students can develop while working to change the legal landscape across a variety of sectors, including employment, housing, and freedom to travel
