Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) are increasingly relevant to the legal profession. This program will examine the role of artificial intelligence in current and future legal practice, in drafting briefs, propounding and responding to discovery, settlement negotiations, and trial preparation. Can – and should – law schools teach students to use AI more effectively? Can AI serve as a useful resource for pro se litigants or otherwise help expand access to justice? Are lawyers well-equipped to explain how AI works to judges and juries? The program will also explore the ethical implications of using AI in legal practice.
