Do you teach collaboration in your clinic orientation/seminar, or do you want to? If so, this session is for you! In part one of this session, we will brainstorm specific tools for teaching and improving students’ collaboration skills to develop a stronger work product. We will share sample survey questions and exercises we use that you could adapt to allow your students to self-identify their different working styles and identify how different dimensions of their identity impact their practice communities. We will consider the role of the faculty in normalizing discussions of how gender, race, privilege and identity impact team dynamics and in setting expectations that teams should have norms conversations. In part two of this session, we will show a new short video of a typical collaborative challenge between students to facilitate small group discussions around common student conflicts, in an effort to address what interventions are appropriate at what stages of the work process, and ways to provide feedback and guidance on collaboration.
