This program addresses the research and application of a growth mindset in legal education. Although the initial aptitudes, talents, and interests of individuals differ, Carol Dweck’s research in mindsets demonstrates that all individuals can grow through application and experience. Traditional teaching methods have proved successful over time, yet when such methods are misapplied or employed exclusively, they may undermine student confidence and morale or fall short of fostering all students’ abilities. Re-evaluating legal education through a growth mindset lens—with formative assessments, individual feedback, and multiple opportunities to improve—promotes autonomy, relatedness, and self-efficacy, building necessary traits for resilient attorneys.
