This panel considers the Gaza-Israel War from the perspective of international law. The focus will be on how actors on the ground and the international community are striving to reanswer the questions of state recognition and governmental legitimacy that have troubled Palestine and Israel since 1948. Questions of recognition, legitimacy, intervention and non-intervention, the legal status of armed internal factions, and the legitimating character of democracy and human rights will be considered. Comparable cases under international law will be addressed. The panel will bring together a distinguished group of scholars holding a range of views on Palestine and Israel.
