The desire to belong and to be included is a basic human need. As the saying goes: “Diversity is being invited to the party. Inclusion is being asked to dance. Belonging is feeling free to dance however you want.” Studies have shown that a sense of belonging is central to academic success and that a lack of belonging can have negative academic and professional consequences for students. The Annual Section Program features a panel discussion focused on teaching techniques that cultivate inclusive environments and foster a sense of belonging.
