The 2016 election was marred by
a series of hostile acts by non-U.S. actors designed to disrupt various aspects
of the American democratic process, including hacking the DNC, distributing
those hacked emails, purchasing political advertisements on social media in
violation of long standing prohibitions on foreign political expenditures, and
encouraging political rallies among rival groups to foment political discord in
the United States. This panel will discuss the election law, constitutional
law, criminal law, and national security law aspects of securing American
elections from foreign interference.
