Though often unseen, nonhuman animals permeate our lives and legal landscape. Animal interests implicate virtually every field of law, making animal issues in many ways a quintessential lens, and an engaging means of grounding core first-year topics for students. In addition, efforts seeking justice for nonhuman animals connect with legal advocacy efforts on behalf of humans and the environment in rich and complex ways. This panel will explore the myriad ways in which animal law intersects with other areas of the law, and the benefits and challenges of integrating animal law broadly into legal pedagogy and advocacy.
